Empirical best prediction of small area bivariate parameters

چکیده

This paper introduces empirical best predictors of small area bivariate parameters, like ratios sums or ratios, by assuming that the target unit-level vector follows a nested error regression model. The corresponding means squared errors are estimated parametric bootstrap. Several simulation experiments empirically study behavior introduced statistical methodology. An application to real data from Spanish household budget survey gives estimators food expenditures provinces.

Resampling Based Empirical Prediction: An Application to Small Area Estimation

Best linear unbiased prediction is well known for its wide range of applications including small area estimation. While the theory is well established for mixed linear models and under normality of the error and mixing distributions, the literature is sparse for nonlinear mixed models under nonnormality of the error or of the mixing distributions. This article develops a resampling based unifie...

Applying Bivariate Binomial/Logit Normal Models to Small Area Estimation

The U.S. Census Bureau’s SAIPE (Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates) program estimates poverty for various age groups for states, counties, and school districts of the U.S. We focus here on poverty estimates of school-aged (5-17) children for counties. The corresponding SAIPE production model applies to log transformed direct survey estimates for each county of the number of 5-17 year-olds ...

An Empirical Bayes Prediction Interval for the Finite Population Mean of a Small Area

We construct an empirical Bayes (EB) prediction interval for the finite population mean of a small area when data are available from many similar small areas. We assume that the individuals of the population of the i area are a random sample from a normal distribution with mean μi and variance σ 2 i . Then, given σ 2 i , the μi are independently distributed with each μi having a normal distribu...

Empirical Zoning Distributions for Small Area Health Data

Many health studies use aggregate data such as the means or totals for areal units or zones when individual level data are not available. An ecological analysis using these data typically produces estimates that differ from those obtained using the corresponding individual level analysis. This is due to the modifiable area unit problem (MAUP) whereby the results of the analysis depend on the sc...
